The class was tasked with rebranding a specific sport for the up and coming 2024 Paris Olympics. We meticulously researched our individual sport in order to further understand the history and culture behind it. Over the course of the semester we were instructed to turn in four deliverables to show consistent branding across multiple mediums.
Project Description
Components
Content Map, Poster, Brochure, Installation, Motion Graphic
Research + Content Map
We kicked off this project off by conducting a wide range of research. Using a well calculated content map, I could then organize the information that defines the Olympics, Paris Olympics, and Olympic Skateboarding. This practice helped me define hierarchy, identify the relationship between these entities, and ultimately determine the content for each deliverable.
Poster
Initially, the class was tasked with creating a poster to to inform viewers about Olympic Skateboarding. This poster specifically showcases the Street Skateboarding Event in which the main visual component is the rail obstacle.
Brochure
The second deliverable is a brochure that provides further insight into our selected sport. This brochure showcases the Park Skateboarding Event, which highlights the obstacles found in this event, as well as provides insight into the rules and defines athletes.
Installation
The third element of this system consists of an installment. This project showcases the two specific Olympic Skateboarding Events - Street and Park - shown side by side. The viewer engages with this sculpture to understand the difference between the disciplines.
Motion Graphic
The final deliverable is a 30-second motion graphic, with the goal of creating a visual message while maintaining a consistent look with the other elements in the system. Since skateboarding is a new sport in the Olympics, it was an opportunity to showcase how the Olympics strives to be inclusive to all sports and cultures, thus “Pushing Sports Forward.”
Process
The process involved a systematic approach, starting with thorough research and ideation, followed by sketching and prototyping, refining through feedback, and producing functional and cohesive design solutions.
